An Events of Interest calendar is available for 2013. The calendar features Queensland and national events of interest to the Commission, our stakeholders and the general public with an interest in child protection, welfare and justice.

Please note the dates and information of these events are correct at time of publication.  For further information about a specific event, please see the relevant event page link in the calendar.

  Back to School road safety campaign Department of Transport and Main Roads Launched at the before the new school year commences, the Back-to-school road safety education kits for all Queensland Prep and Year One students early in 2009 and 2011. These kits aimed to help parents and teachers develop vital road safety skills in young students.

2 Islamic Council of Queensland Services Expo Islamic Council of Queensland Opportunity for government and non-government services to come together to support young people in the Islamic community
  National Operators Forum, Melbourne Child Safety Victoria Representatives from agencies across Australia with employment screening responsibilities meets voluntarily each year to share information and benefit from one another’s collective experience in developing and administering employment screening systems.

1 (9-11am) Youth Outreach Service Open Day Salvation Army Outreach Service, 20 Baxter Street, Fortitude Valley Come and visit the Salvation Army Youth Outreach Service to check out the space and find out what we offer for young people. Meet staff and look at displays, whilst having freshly brewed coffee, inspired food and listening to live music. The Salvation Army Street Level Missionary site will also be officially opened on that morning as well. This site will also include Money Care Financial Counselling and Welfare Services.
3-10 (launch on 3) Foster and Kinship Carer Week
Theme: Celebrating carers, fostering futures
Foster and Kinship Care Week Committee, under the auspice of PeakCare Queensland Opportunity to celebrate the dedication and commitment of Queensland's foster and kinship carers. A range of grant-funded regional events are held throughout Queensland during the week to celebrate the positive work of our foster and kinship carers.

16 National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence Department of Education, Training and Employment The day is about students, parents, teachers and school communities working together to create positive school environments free from bullying, harassment and violence.

National Playgroup Week is an annual celebration of play and Playgroups enjoyed by thousands of families around Australia.
21 Harmony Day Department of Immigration and Citizenship An annual celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity.
21 National Close the Gap Day Oxfam Australia Annual event held to raise awareness of the Indigenous health crisis.
25-26 4th Annual National Juvenile Justice Summit (Melbourne) IIR Conferences The conference will focus on significant issues moving forward for juvenile justice in Australia.
25 Tuckshop and Uniform Shop Expo (Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre) Queensland Association of School Tuckshops Inc. Exhibition of Smart Choice compliance food for Queensland’s school canteens. Partnered with the uniform shop.
  TJ Ryan Memorial Scholarship & Medal Department of Education, Training and Employment Annual awards to support exemplary Queensland students who demonstrate outstanding leadership in their school and community and academic excellence through their achievements in year 12.

  Australian Children’s Commissioners and Guardians Meeting, Hobart Australian Children’s Commissioners and Guardians – chaired by Commissioner Annual meeting discuss and develop public policy and program development to promote children’s rights and participation.
